The Stapler EP, out NOW! on Control Breaks

Written by Squatter on June 29, 2009 – 1:03 pm -

Here’s the press release:

“Lord of the twisted beats, Squatter, returns to Control Breaks with the long awaited Stapler EP. It contains two original tracks from his dark and malevolent mind, first up is the mercurial magic of ‘Roll It Up’. A true gem this track utilises the vocal talents of MC Regimental to give it that extra special punch.

‘Roll it Up’ arrives accompanied with a remix from Control Breaks top man, Section. He turns the track in a more 4/4 direction with some oh so very contemporary, heavy bass added.

Finally we reach the second piece of Squatter mayhem – ‘Married to a Stapler’ is a moving and deeply emotional tale of one man’s struggle to find happiness in a world that thinks him a perverted freak. Thankfully this sad tale is told not through poetry or lengthy monologues but jackin’ beats, thumping basslines and menacing synths.

All in all a truly startling package from a soon to be superstar producer!

Be sure to check out www.controlbreaks.com or www.myspace.com/controlbreaks for more details and a little sample from each of the classic tunes.”

Mlle Y - Contemporary Dance Performance

Written by Squatter on June 25, 2009 – 2:14 pm -

A contemporary dance piece what i did do most of the sound for, catch a performance of it if you’re around brighton.
This has been an epic piece, and has been toyed with over the course of a whole year. Most of the sound was recorded from the performer and her interactions with the microphone in the development of the piece. This was then heavily manipulated and other complementary sounds were introduced. There are also healthy doses of silence, which i don’t think i’m allowed to take credit for.
Press release below:
Mlle Y
is
A noisy dance
A Playful and painful leap beyond language

mlle_y-2.jpg

featuring
A microphone speaking for itself
and
A mouth attacking its speaker

mlle_y-1.jpg

Mlle Y
is
An amplified under-statement,
A Stuttering dance through a fountain of words
come;
Listen to the body in motion
Break the silence with a game
NEW VENTURE THEATRE

Mlle Y at the New Venture Theatre
is the joint venture of dancer and choreographer Tamar Daly and NVT artistic director Mike Stubbs. Closing this year’s season at the theatre on the 8-11 of July, this evening explores the tensions within Strindberg’s play The Stronger.
Opening with Strindberg’s one act play, directed by Stubbs, and continuing with Mademoiselle Y, Daly’s dance/media performance, the program concludes with a vocal interpretation of the play by singer Nicolette Corcoran.
Described by Mike as “a jewel of theatrical drama with timeless appeal”, The Stronger consists of a single conversation between two women, Madame X and Miss Y. An impromptu meeting in a bar leads to an unusual dialogue in which Madame X accuses Miss Y of having an affair with her husband. Like many of Strindberg’s plays, The Stronger is a psychological trial of strength in which two characters are brought together in an immediate moment of opposition.
Drawing on the tensions in the play, Daly playfully explores Mlle Y’s ‘voice’ in her unique performance style. She combines movement, video projections and electronic sound to create a dynamic theatrical landscape where unsaid thoughts and feelings continuously emerge and disappear.

I’ve got me a guest mix slot on the mighty RSI Radio show on Leith FM. It’s this Friday evening, 26th June 2009 at 23:00 (I’m on at midnight).

TUNE IN AT http://www.leithfm.co.uk through your browser or download to a player of your choice. In the Edinburgh area at 98.8FM on your wireless transistor radios.

Kicking off this week’s show is Mike McGarrity from Edinburgh’s Pins and Needles club night followed by Kenny Redstar for a wee while playing some new material he’s picked up recently.

And a little heads up…

Next release is out 29th June on Control Breaks - ‘Married to a Stapler’ / ‘Roll It Up feat. MC Regimental’ (plus Section Remix) - a brooding, automated assault of an EP which will hopefully reearn IDJ Magazine’s recognition for ‘oddest track title of the month’

Collabs

Written by Squatter on June 18, 2009 – 5:08 pm -

I’ve just stuck up a list of links of people i’ve worked on tracks and things with and remixes etc. If i’ve missed you out then just badger me about it :)

collaborations

There are lots of new tracks a-brewing at the moment, but none have actually got to a finished point yet, hence no posts recently!

Incase anyone’s looked out of the window recently you’ll also notice that it’s summer, which may have something to do with it as well..

‘I dislocated the floor today’

Written by Squatter on April 27, 2009 – 5:42 pm -

Yes indeedy! Well, truth be told i didn’t, Rhian did. I was just asked to work with her to create some ‘upside-down dubstep’ for her contemporary dance film piece. One of the more interesting briefs i’ve had :)

The music for the piece has been called ‘vs gravity’, purely for my own amusement so that in a tracklisting it will appear as ’squatter vs gravity’ which suits the amount of trampolining i’ve been doing recently. yeah!

Blurby:

A piece by Rhian Farnworth.
Dancers: Cornelia Turner-Klier and Robert Keates
Music - ‘vs gravity’ devised specially for the piece by Squatter.

‘a screendance inspired by theories on the inverted world by Maurice Merleau-Ponty the oddness of an upside down world translated into a screendance of bodies supported by the wrong surfaces, gravity pulling from all directions and layers of dislocated legs.’

Head to the videos section to watch some other vids
